Patty Carroll
Patty Carroll is an American photographer who has taught and practiced photography since the 1970s. Her images are characterized as vivid and boldly colored. Where her earlier works include typologies and portraiture, her new work symbolically expresses the domestic roles of women via the series “Invisible Women.” Carroll earned a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design from the University of Illinois and, in 1972, she graduated with a master of science in photography from the Institute of Design at IIT, Chicago.
Since receiving her MS in photography, Carroll has been teaching photography at universities worldwide. She has been a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College and the Royal College of Art in London, among other schools. Carroll’s photography has been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the Art Institute in Chicago, White Box Museum in Beijing, and the Photographers Association in Ningbo, China.
Carroll’s work has received many merits, publications and grants. In 2014, she was listed in Photolucida’s “Top 50” after her most recent series, “Anonymous Women.” The series became a published book by Daylight Books in 2016. This is the latest of her five photographic books. Carroll’s work has also been published worldwide by organizations like the Huffington Post, Dallas Morning News and the British Journal of Photography. In 2003, the Illinois Arts Council awarded her the Artist Fellowship Grant for her work.

Later on, she moved to New York to further develop her career as a photographer and enrolled in classes at the Photography Department of the New York Film Academy. She received a Master’s Degree in photography in Los Angeles, where she is currently based. Mizrakli has conducted many shooting sessions for Mica Studios and Bullet Magazine in New York and had two solo exhibitions in Los Angeles. She has recently participated in the Contemporary Istanbul Exhibition (November 2013). In some of her black and white works she uses the human body only as a pictorial sign in order to create almost abstract works. First made anonymous, the female model is then cloned and circularly multiplied. The result is a kind of wheel in which the repeated human body gives birth to a new, seemingly vegetal or mineral structure. Thus, the human element seems to be transformed into different other natural...Category
