About the Item
Limited edition silver gelatin print - #2 of an edition of 15.
Shot on true infrared film (Efke, RIP) in 2008, and originally printed on 11x14 Forte Polywarmtone Plus paper; this copy was printed on 16x20 Ilford Warmtone paper in 2014 (not my usual paper). "Emergence" series. (11x11" on 16x20 paper). Selenium toned for archival purposes. Signed/dated/editioned on back of print. [I am happy to offer additional copies of this darkroom print if this one sells quickly.
[The scan was done via an earlier version of the image, so the tones of this particular print are slightly different from what the 1st photo (the scan) might imply to discerning eyes (hence the detail shots and video of this copy of the print)]
All of my images are essentially subconscious self-portraits, which reveal themselves during my printing process; I think of most of them, including this black-and-white photograph, as "spiritual landscapes."
My love affair with true infrared film began more than 20 years ago, when I "discovered" the infrared work of Minor White, as a student. As a spiritual printer - who fell into photography by way of eastern religions, discovering his work changed my entire photographic trajectory (prior to that I was primarily a street photographer; infrared lured to me to the land and sea)...
Despite the real thing no longer being on the market (I've been very lucky on eBay), it is still something I specialize in. I appreciate the way that b&w infrared film seems to turn the world inside out, and expose what the naked eye cannot see.
