Candice CMC
At a distance, the portraits created by Candice CMC are merely Pop art-informed depictions of iconic celebrities and tributes to the work of revered artists such as Picasso and Vermeer. A closer look, however, reveals a careful arrangement of sweets and delicious treats. The New York-based artist’s pieces are made up of hundreds of sharply focused images of everyone’s favorite coffee accompaniment: doughnuts.
In what could be considered doughnut Pointillism with a meticulous approach reminiscent of Chuck Close’s work, each pastry in Candice CMC’s portraits is photographed separately and then studied for its color, tone and intensity. The artist then places each image in an evenly spaced grid to make up the desired portrait.
Some of Candice CMC's large-scale compositions include images of over 1,000 doughnuts with glazes, sprinkles, frosting and other tantalizing toppings. Over the years, she has focused on a wide range of subjects such as Albert Einstein, Marylin Monroe, Batman villain the Joker and Vincent van Gogh.
Candice CMC’s work has been presented at fairs and galleries around the United States, including Claude’s Gallery in Southampton, Art Market Hamptons and the White Room Gallery in Bridgehampton. Her work is held in corporate and private collections all over the world.

- "Wonka Donuts" 46x38" Photographic arrangement of donuts on rag paperBy Candice CMCLocated in Southampton, NYYou have read about the extraordinary donut portraits by Candice CMC on social media world-wide and we are excited and proud to represent her work. This one of a kind photo arrangement on 100% rag paper by Candice CMC measures 39x31" the Framed size is approx. 46x38". Candice creates her donut portraits from her original photographs of donuts. No software program of any kind is used in creating the portrait, Candice goes through the arduous task of looking through her photos to select just the right images with the correct texture, color and highlights that are needed for each area of the portrait. Nowadays, so many people are using programs to create images, it's nice to know that this artist is using her artistic talent to create these intricate realistic portraits. The art was created to appear as a pop art image of hundreds of random donuts when viewed up close. What makes this art exciting is when the work is viewed through the camera on your phone, the very realistic portrait appears. Creating a great conversation piece for those who view it. Collectors come in the gallery and say, we love donuts and then we tell them to take a picture of it with their phone, they hold up their phone and we immediately hear Oh Wow! Candice CMC has created iconic portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Einstein, Alfred E...Category

- Textured Self Portrait by Cuban Photographer René PeñaBy Rene PeñaLocated in Brooklyn, NYRené Peña (Rene de Jesus Pena Gonzalez) is a self-taught photographer born in Havana, Cuba in 1957. His photography is characterized by stark contrasts, between black and white, subject and background, subject and object. His work often focuses on the duality between human inability to escape institutionalization and human desire for individualism. His interest in contrast is also reflected in his place of residence: Peña currently inhabits the Cerro neighborhood of Cuba which is home to a mostly poor African-Caribbean population, despite having been an enclave of Havana's richest families in the 19th century. René Peña graduated from the Higher pedagogic Institute of Foreign Languages, University of Havana with a specialization in English in 1983. In the late 1980s he entered the national world of photography and since 1990 became leader of the new trends of Cuban photography, first by handling interiors and domestic situations in modern-day Cuba and later making studies of his own body in aspects such as negritude, sexual ambiguity and the influence of consumerism through self-portraits. He conceives his series on the basis of a conceptual, formal and structurally different analysis of all the parameters established up to the present, going from a brutal expressionism to a distinct homoeroticism, with strong mystic elements, trends from experimental painting, and a certain theatrical dramatization. He has had important solo shows and participated in group exhibitions in Cuba, the United States, Venezuela, Canada, France and Germany. His work is part of important collections, not only national but also at world level, such as the National Museum of Fine Arts, Cuba; the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba; Reinhard Schultz Collection, Germany; photographic archive Tuscany, Italy; Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona, USA; Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, USA; collection of the province of Hainuat, Belgium; and Lehigh University Pennsylvania...Category
