'Slide' - the Rolling Stones in Concert
Located in Norwich, GB
David Koppel served his photographic apprenticeship in the rough-and-tumble world of the Fleet Street paparazzi in 1980’s London when his skills captured the very essence of the Me Decade that gave birth to the celebrity culture of today. Koppel’s classic photographs of Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton & the Royal Family appeared in every major newspaper and magazine and marked him out as that rarity amongst press photographers: the artist with a camera. Building on the reputation gained through the photographs for the book Still Waters, his black-and-white portraits of ordinary people now rank among the many famous names in his portfolio. Koppel also went one better and in 2002 bought the St Giles St Gallery , bringing the best of local and international contemporary art and photography to Norwich, including the works of Sir Peter Blake, Terry O’Neill, David Bailey, Maggie Hambling, Storm Thorgersson, Tim Woolcock...

Andy Warhol at Leo Castelli Gallery (vintage exhibit poster)
By Hans Namuth
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Andy Warhol: Leo Castelli Gallery, 1982 exhibition poster (Portrait of Warhol by Hans Namuth) Vintage original Leo Castelli Gallery poster produced in conjunction with Warhol's January 1982 Dollar Signs exhibit. Features the much iconic Hans Namuth portrait of Warhol set amidst a brilliant Renaissance painting. Original 1st printing, 1982 (not to be confused with later renderings). Offset lithograph on wove paper 20 x 22 inches Quattro fold-lines as originally issued; some light wear on fold-line(s); otherwise excellent Published by Leo Castelli Gallery New York, 1982 Unsigned from an edition of unknown; presumed scarce. Further information: Hans Namuth (German, 1915–1990) gained notoriety during his lifetime for his portraits of famous modern artists. In particular, he is most widely recognized for his iconic portraits of the Abstract Expressionist painter by Jackson Pollock. Initially, Namuth was skeptical of Pollock’s artistic technique, however, he came to respect Pollock’s talent after being convinced by his teacher, Josef Breitenbach, that Pollock’s artistic innovations were significant. At the time, Namuth’s portraits of Pollock helped to establish a new image of the male artist as a genius, one who is both feeling and staunchly masculine. Related Categories Warhol photos. Andy Warhol In Drag (vintage Warhol announcement)
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Christopher Makos Andy Warhol from Altered Image series (exhibition announcement) Brilliantly rendered, frameable announcement card published in 1989 to announce two New York exhibitions: 'Painting & Sculpture by Andy Warhol / Photographs of Andy Warhol by Christopher Makos and Everything by Makos.' Image is an offset rendering from Makos' famed 'Altered Image Series, Andy Warhol (1981).' Offset lithograph on wove paper Height 6.75 in.; Width 5.25 in. (6.75 x 10.5 inches open) "Andy Warhol enjoyed dressing for parties in drag, sometimes in dresses of his own design. He admired 'the boys who spend their lives trying to be complete girls,' so in 1981 he and a photographic assistant, Christopher Makos, agreed to collaborate on a session portraying Warhol in drag. In many ways, they modeled the series on Man Ray's 1920s work with the French artist Marcel Duchamp, in which the two artists created a female alter ego name Rrose Sélavy for Duchamp. Warhol and Makos made a number of pictures, both black-and-white prints and color Polaroids, of their first attempt. For the second round of pictures, they hired a theater makeup person. This stage professional better understood the challenge of transforming a man's face into that of a woman. After the makeup, Warhol tried on curled, straight, long, short, dark, and blonde wigs. Here he appears in a conventionally masculine white shirt and plaid tie...
