From the age of ten until eighteen; twelve hours a day; six days a week; on the barre or in the classroom; students of this school spend the majority of their youth in fierce competition with one another. In their hope for fame, fortune, and a better life, these adolescents strive for a level of perfection that seems always just out of reach. Papo, inspired by her own memories of nine years of ballet classes as a child, emphasizes the emotional side of these children’s experience. Rachel Papo was born in 1970 in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in Israel. She began photographing as a teenager and attended a renowned fine arts high school in Haifa. At age eighteen, she served in the Israeli Air Force as a photographer. She earned a BFA in Fine Arts from Ohio State University (1991-1996), and an MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City (2002-2005). Papo's photographs are included in numerous public and private collections, and have been exhibited and published worldwide. She currently lives in Berlin working on personal projects, as well as accepting commissioned projects. Her first book, "Serial No. 3817131," was published by powerHouse Books in 2008. She was selected as a finalist for the “Santa Fe Prize for Photography,” and was been awarded a NYFA Fellowship in 2006. In 2009 Rachel won a Lucie Award for “Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year.”

Digital C-print Stamped and numbered, verso 20 x 24 inches (Edition of 10) 30 x 40 inches (Edition of 5) This photograph is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. Please note that prices increase as editions sell. Luke Smalley was an American artist known for his photographic work, which pairs a coolly minimalist aesthetic with a retro nostalgia. Images from his early in his career were inspired by fitness manuals and yearbooks c. 1910. This is not surprising since Smalley graduated with a degree in sports medicine from Pepperdine University and worked for a number of years as a model and personal trainer. Smalley shot the bulk of his photographs in his home state of Pennsylvania, using real high school athletes as models. “Exercise at Home” is Luke Smalley’s second major body of work. Shot in and around the tiny Pennsylvania town the artist called home, Smalley revisits themes of adolescent growing pains acted out under the guise of earnest athleticism. Teenagers engage in simple yet strange competitions meant to establish their standings amongst one another. Two youths practice boating...

    By Joshua Lutz
    Located in New York, NY
Digital C-print (Edition of 10) Signed, dated, and numbered, verso 30 x 35.5 inches, sheet 22 x 27 inches, image This photograph is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. Please note that prices increase as editions sell. Joshua Lutz is an American artist working with large-format photography and video. Lutz began photographing the Meadowlands ten years ago as a a documentary study of the 32-square-miles of marshy wilderness that sits between New Jersey and New York (while ostensibly searching for the remains of Jimmy Hoffa). Over the years, however, this project evolved into a compelling artistic exploration, revealing the soul of this liminal space. Lutz was given his first solo exhibition at Gitterman Gallery during the summer of 2004. In 2008, “Meadowlands,” was published as Lutz's first book, with powerHouse Books. In essayist Robert Sullivan’s introduction to the monograph, he describes the Meadowlands as “. . .that giant swath of swamp and space that separates New Jersey from New York City, or, put another way, from New York City and the rest of the United States of America.” “The New Yorker” wrote: “Joshua Lutz takes the New Topographics...
