Johan Van Oeckel
Untitled (Black on Light Grey)

About the Item

THIS PIECE IS AVAILABLE FRAMED. Please reach out to the gallery for additional information. ABOUT THIS PIECE: Colour, form, space and time are the main elements in the work of Johan Van Oeckel. In search for new compositions he always starts from small sketches based on fragments of real objects, art, architecture, design... Often making formal allusions to abstract modernism, Van Oeckel is interested in 'time' anchored in form and colour, as they can carry a certain time frame or age. How do they become so powerful that they are archetypes for a certain period in art history? How does a new language of forms emerge that in turn can define a possible future of abstract art? ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Johan Van Oeckel (b.1971) is a Belgian artist living and working in Leuven. In his work, he is in search of 'time' anchored in form and color. Oscillating between color field painting, geometric and conceptual abstraction he offers the viewer a privileged access to an introverted and silent space. Van Oeckel graduated as Master in Fine Arts at Sint-Lukas Brussels. PACKAGING: 30x40" and 40x60" prints are shipped in a special fortified tube to guard against bending or damage. Framed 30x40" prints are shipped via FedEx in a bespoke cardboard box with a fitted interior armature for the frame. We do not frame the extra large, 40x60" print sizes because they are too large to ship without risking damage. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We ship unframed prints internationally via DHL. The international shipping cost does not include the tax & duties, which will be the responsibility of the customer. Unfortunately, because of the high shipping cost we do not ship framed prints internationally at this time.

The subjects for his striking and captivating visuals are typically set in the most ordinary environments, drawing the viewer into a charged but serene experience based on composition, palette and formal lines. Saturated in color, the nominal subjects gather a haunting and mesmerizing quality, creating a poignant pretext for the making of a formal color photograph.
