This abstract geometric print is from Richard Hamilton’s early series of “Reaper works” (1949), inspired by Sigfried Giedion’s 1948 publication “Mechanization Takes Command”, in which the Swiss art historian describes the advancing mechanization of everyday life. Image: 6.75 x 9.75 in / 17.3 x 24.7 cm Paper 11.25 x 12.75 in / 28.5 x 32.7 cm Etching on J. Whatman paper. Edition approximately 300 + 30 artist's proofs: this example was a gift from the artist and is signed but not numbered. Printed by Hartmut Frielinghaus in 1977 A copy of this print was exhibited at “Reaper. Richard Hamilton und Sigfried Giedion” May 3 – June 25, 2017, Graphische Sammlung, Zürich, Switzerland A copy of this print is in the collection of Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain Catalogue reference: Giedion, Sigfried, et al.
