Signed lower right Edward Penfield A fine impression of the definitive state from the edition on this paper (there was also a small edition on Japan paper). Transcribed from Penfield’s 1897 poster of the same title by artisans at Atelier Chéret and issued as plate 115 (of 256) in the series Les Maîtres de l’Affiche, bearing the blindstamp of the monogram (Lugt 1777c) in the sheet lower right. Published by Jules Chéret printed at Impremiere Chaix (Atelier Chéret), Paris. Catalog: Masters of the Poster pl. 115 24 1/2 x 20 1/2 framed

He first pursued the same musical career as his parents, who were both musicians, leaving his home as a trained double-bass player in 1892 to move to Chatou near Versailles. After absolving his military service in Vitré Maurice Vlaminck worked as a musician until he accidentally met André Derain in 1900. It was Derain who kindled Vlaminck's artistic ambitions.
