About the Item

Georges Braque Page 63 from Si je mourais la-bas, 1962, captures the heart of many with its poignant and inspiring shade of cobalt blue. Rendered on crisp white paper, Braque depicts this atypical shape made up of edges, lines, and curvaceous forms. The greatest part to this aesthetically simple piece is the fragmentation of these shapes in which creates in us a peculiar reaction. The electric blue geometric shapes reconstruct along the flat white surface where the edges jut out in an upwards motion that suggests mightiness and courage. There is a sense of belonging to the highest order--imperial and strong. The thick white paper enhances the blue while the blue provides texture to the entirety of the work. One can experience the robust sensation of this piece, looking at it against the light where it glistens. The bottom two curvaceous linear modules hover just above the edge of the bottom outline uplifting the heavy crown. Opulently colored and richly textured, Braque commemorates this piece as part of a colorful series to French poet Guillaume Apollinaire. Created in 1962, Georges Braque Page 63 from Si je mourais la-bas, 1962 is a color wood engraving. Numbered from the edition of 70 in pencil in the lower left, this work is hand-signed by Georges Braque (Argenteuil, Val-d’Oise, 1882 – Paris, 1963) in pencil the lower right. This work is one out of a series of 18 such color wood engravings that accompany text by Guillaume Apolliaire in the book Si je mourais la-bas which was published by Louis Broder, Paris and printed by Féquet and Baudier, Paris. • Construction d'un Temple en ruine - Plate n.6
    By Paul Delvaux
    Located in Roma, IT
Construction d’un temple – Plate n.6 is a b/w original etching and dypoint realized in 1972 (as it is reported on plate on the lower-right margin) by Paul Delvaux. From the collection “Construction d’un temple en ruine à la déesse Vanadé” came into being from the collaboration of four years between the French author and a memeber of the Nouveau-Roman, Alain Robbe-Grillet (1922-2008), and the Belgian artist Paul Delvaux (1897-1994). Firstly Robbe-Grillet wrote a text, to which Delvaux then replied witha wonderful engraving, Robbe-Grillet then responded with a second text. This is how the building blocks for this beautiful artist's book came together, upon which it was then constructed like a temple. The book was printed in an edition of 187 copies, of which only 40 contain the illustrations by Paul Delvaux. Our copy is unnumbered and printed on “Arches” ivory colored paper with the Bateau Lavoir watermark (on the lower right corner), and “Richard Bas” watermark (on the lower left margin). Image dimensions: 31.3 x 44.3 cm This beautiful artwork representing a woman looking at another woman pictured like ancient Greek marble statue...
