About the Item

Hermann Kätelhön (German, * 22. September 1884 in Hofgeismar; † 24. November 1940 in München) Workers - Lithograph, Sheet ca. 56 x 41 cm - Signed bottom right - The photographs show the sheet behind its tired vintage paper mount - The sheet however has become loose, as the glue has dried out. Already as an adolescent Hermann Katelhön showed great interest in art and went on to be educated from 1903 to 1905 at the Kunstakademie of Karlsruhe, Germany. He then moved on to the Münchener Akademie to continue his studies under Peter Halm from 1906 bis 1907. By 1919 Hermann Käthelhön had established himself and was well known for his numerous drawings, etchings and woodcuts of people and landscapes of the Schwalm in Willingshausen. He portrayed peasants with great care, was fascinated by the Willingshausen landscape and captivated by the motifs of field work. He portrayed the people at work and he was particularly impressed by the traces that the hard physical work left behind on people. Hermann Kätelhön died 1940 in Munich at the age of 56.
