About the Item

Lithograph of Castle Borgholm from a distance by Ake Pettersson-Naw (Swedish, 1925-2004). Presented in a cream mat and black frame. Image size: 5"H x 8"W Nils Åke Wilhelm Pettersson-Nåw (Swedish, 1925-2004) was born in 1925 in Kalmar and was a Swedish graphic artist, cartoonist, and painter. He studied art and graphic design in 1952-1953 and took study trips to the Netherlands, England, France and Spain. From the mid-1960s he was mainly active in Umeå and Holmön, where the family spent summers on his wife's childhood farm. He made his debut in 1948 in a studio exhibition in Kalmar together with Sven R.W. And. In 1950 (the year he began signing his work with "NAW") he participated in a group exhibition entitled “Group 50's” at the Frimurar hotel in Kalmar. They participated several times in the National Museum's “Young Artists” exhibition and were represented at the “Young Graphic Artists” exhibition at Kulturen in Lund. Together with Birgit Forssell, he was shown at Lorensberg's art gallery in 1955 and together with Valter Lindberg in Oskarshamn. Separately, he exhibited at Smålands museum in Växjö, and at Ekströms art gallery in Stockholm. He participated in collection exhibitions with the Graphic Society and the National Federation of Educational Art. Together with Stig Jonzon and Bengt Ågren, he published a graphic file in 1959 and he published two graphic folders on his own with motifs from Kalmar and Karlskrona. In book form he published the book Pictures (1957) and Stentryck (1958) and several books with motifs from Umeå and Holmön. Pettersson-Nåw's art consists of architectural magazines, archaic urban environments and landscapes from Öland, Kalmarkusten, Stockholm and Västerbotten. Pettersson-Nåw is represented at the Modern Museum in Stockholm, Kalmar Art Museum, Kalmar County Museum, Smålands Museum in Växjö, and the Västerbotten Museum in Umeå. In 1998, Åke Pettersson-Nåw was awarded the “Minerva Award” by the Umeå municipality's cultural committee. Selected publications : Pettersson-Nå, Åke (1965). "Holmön two seasons".
