PETER ALEXANDER (1939- ) Contemporary American sculptor who was a part of the Light and Space movement along with Robert Irwin and Larry Bell during the 1960s. His best-known works are sculptures constructed from translucent plastic and resin, which respond to the light of the spaces in which they are shown. Alexander started as an architect, before developing a reputation in the 1960s for creating his sculptures. More recently, he has shown himself to be a prolific painter, with many of his paintings depicting the landscape and night skyline of Los Angeles. The artist’s works are held in the collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
