About the Item

"La Peine Perdue (Wasted Effort)" (sky Bird) is a limited edition 74/275 fine art lithograph of Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte on BFK Rives hand-made paper. It depicts in his typical surrealist style clouds in the sky behind a stage wiht a symbolic bowl. The original oil on canvas work of Magritte is from 1962. Excellent condition, signed on the lower right hand side, framed to museum standard with a thick pass-partout and an antique hand-made wooden frame. Certificate. René Francois Ghislain Magritte (1898 - 1967) was a Belgian painter and major figure of the surrealist movement. He focused his attention on ordinary objects, which he depicted outside their everyday contexts, creating an unexpected encounter for his audience. Through the surrealistic contextualization of his objects an object finds new meaning, depending on the surrounding the painter placed it.
