Shepard Fairey
Arab Woman Gold (2007), Screen Print, Limited Edition of 300

2007

About the Item

'Arab Woman Gold' by Shepard Fairey, 2007 18 x 24 inches (45 x 61 cm) Screen Print on Fine Art Paper. Limited edition of 300 (AP) Hand-signed and dated in pencil by Shepard Fairey. Signature and date appear on the bottom right, the number on the bottom left corner. Stored flat, smoke and dust free, but will be shipped in a tube. Often featuring culturally diverse women as a rebuttal against xenophobia, Obey's depiction of an Arab woman is clear, concise, empowering and as important today as in 2007 when it was first released. Shepard Fairey (Born Frank Shepard Fairey) was born in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1970. Whilst attending the Rhode Island School of Design, Fairey created a small company named Alternative Graphics, selling stickers, t-shirts, skateboards and posters through a mail-order catalogue. Fairey is famous for creating the Andre the Giant Has a Posse sticker campaign that attracted significant curiosity and interest, eventually evolving into the Obey Giant clothing brand. The Obey Giant website states that the sticker itself has no meaning but was created to cause people to contemplate and search for one.

  • "Radical Kinship" Shepard Fairey and Father Greg Boyle Signed Homeboy Industries
    By Shepard Fairey
    Located in Draper, UT
"I made this art because I'm incredibly inspired by Father Greg Boyle who's spirit and dedication have helped to build an ecosystem that gives opportunities to people who frequently find doors closed elsewhere. Homeboy provides a second chance to people who never had a first chance. In this painting, I wanted to convey Father Greg's vision, as well as the love, trust, and camaraderie that exemplify the culture of Homeboy. The pride people feel at Homeboy is palpable and the art I created is meant to illustrate the power of support, healing, and redemption. When I showed the art to Father Greg, he seemed genuinely moved, but he seemed far more excited to call Cesar, the homeboy he is embracing in the image, into the room to share the art with him. Cesar's reaction to the art was enthusiastic his eyes lit up, and he said: "wow, that looks like it was done by the guy who did the Obama poster...
