"Voyager VI" Wall Sculpture Modern, orange, black, white, mcm, mid century

2019

About the Item

Please Note: This Listing is for a commission. This piece will be made specifically for you. (Colors and palette changes can be arranged). Voyager VI is a large Mixed Media Wall Sculpture. It was constructed from 2 layers of MDF board with solid African mahogany, wood stain and acrylic paint. Voyager VI is at once retro and modern. Geometric lines and hard edge paint almost suggest the atomic age, yet the aged mahogany prevents it from being too futuristic (As aluminum or another modern metal would). I wanted to create a piece that looks at once, futuristic and retro. Similar to the industrial and furniture designs of Mid Century Modern movement. Yet while it appears like it could belong in the 1950's space race, the mahogany hardwood and grain texture pulls it back to earth and provides warmth. The name Voyager came from two things. One my son said it looked like a spaceship. Secondly, it is a nod to one of my favorite artists, the abstract artist Harvey Quaytman whose minimalist geometric painting also named Voyager inspires me every day. Voyager comes ready to hang with wire installed. It is finished with Liquidtex Semi-gloss Varnish and the sides are finished.

  • Abstract Modern Sculpture " Stronghold "Outdoor Recycled Wood Aluminium Silver
    By David Marshall
    Located in Benahavis, ES
The modern Sculpture " Stronghold ” is a unique metal piece made from a burnout mold by David Marshall in 2021, sand cast in aluminium and wood in our foundry, handcrafted by the Artist in his workshop is Spain. His signature certifies its authenticity. With more than 50 Years since his first exhibition in Spain, David Marshall has shown his highly individual work throughout Europe and United States. “ After all this years since my first show I am still fascinated by working in 3 dimensions – maybe because I cant draw or more likely because sculpture holds some obtuse subconscious obligation. It is still addictive and highly satisfying despite the onus of molding, casting, welding, polishing, fitting in a tough work environment before the final satisfaction of seeing the piece come together as envisaged. Living in the mountains provides the creative impetus, being surrounded by rocks, rivers, the detritus of erosion, geomorphology and all natures destructive force has inspired an eclectic, very personal and organic bias to my work – an appreciation of random forms, diverse textures and all the unexpected creativity of the natural world where no line is perfect.” Metal and Wood Sculpture, Abstract, Silver, Outdoor, Indoor, Modern, Contemporary, Recycled Wood
