Eric Schutte
Bittern- 21st Century Sculpture of a Bird made out of recycled Black Plastics

2021

About the Item

This sculpture is made out of black plastic by Dutch artist Eric Schutte. The artist who also paints paintings, made this sculpture out of plastic. The plastic is recycled and used before in agriculture. The anatomy of the bird is astonishing. The bittern is live sized, so just as big as it is in nature. Eric Schutte lives and works in Ommen, in the North East of the Netherlands . He describes his art, paintings and sculptures, as Modern Conceptual Realism. Conceptual because he likes to tell you something else besides the beauty of his subject. In the series he made for his solo exhibition it is about 'The Moment' (Momentum). The use of plastic in his sculptures fresh colors, broad brushstrokes, an an underlying sketch in magenta, beautiful light in his paintings makes it all very unique and special. Feel free to ask for additional information about this piece or the artist. We will be happy to help you. The sculpture will be shipped in a wooden crate, worldwide for free, just as the one you can see one on the last picture. In our pictures we also show the artist, talking with some art collectors in our gallery.

  • Lost in reflexion
    By Guillaume Lachapelle

Text by Terence Sharpe There is a moment in Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris (1972) when the character Hari commits suicide by drinking liquid oxygen. As she is not actually a human, but an artificial hybrid product of the mysterious planet and the protagonists’ memories, she heals rapidly and is alive again minutes later. Her choice to take her own life is poignant, seemingly the action of a being becoming aware of its hopeless infinitude. Her realization that while the men will die on the space station or elsewhere, her existence is that of immortality, a deeply alienating notion that causes her to seek her own destruction. The Montreal artist Guillaume Lachapelle has one work that prompts a sense of eternal alienation that echoes Hari’s tragedy. The work greets the viewer with a empty doorway flanked by clinically white bookshelves...
