Jean-Léon Gérôme, (1824-1904) "Entrance of General Bonaparte in Cairo, 1798" Bronze with medal patina Signed on the base “GEROME” and on the back part “SIOT Fondeur Paris” Dimensions: 16 1/8"high x 14 1/8" wide x 4 3/4" length Jean-Léon GEROME: Born in Vesoul May 11, 1824, died January 10, 1904 in Paris. Painter, engraver and sculptor, we owe him mythological compositions, religious and oriental subjects, nudes as well as many animated landscapes. He began at the Salon of 1847 and was a pupil of Delaroche and Gleyre. He is considered as the leader of the neo-Greek or neo-Pompeian style.
