Paul Duval
La Grande Chaise - textured, male figurative, paper Mache and aluminum Sculpture

2023

About the Item

Equally fun and compelling, this new contemporary sculpture from Paul Duval immediately engages the viewer. On a large metal chair (la grande chaise) painted a bright blue, a figure sits, clad only in red shorts, leaning on one arm and gesturing with another, head turned as if in conversation. The Quebec artist has created a series of these figurative sculptures hand-formed from paper mache and wire. Each one is unique and depicts different characters. “Who are the witnesses of our daily life? I also try to make the viewer an integral part of the work as if their presence only adds dimension.” Paul Duval Paul Duval is a member of the Canadian Sculptors Society and of the Conseil de la Sculpture du Québec. He studied Monumental Sculpture at Université de Rimouski, casting at Maison des métiers d’art, Québec, and soldering at Cimic, Saint-Georges, Québec. In addition to his full-time work as an artist, Duval is the Technical Director, at Symposium International de la sculpture, Beauce-Art, in Saint Georges De Beauce, Québec. Duval’s sculptures including commissions are in private and public collections in Canada and France.
