2009

About the Item

CHARLES LUTZ (AMERICAN, B. 1982) STACKED (LOUIS VUITTON SCULPTURE) 2008- Acrylic on canvas with leather and brass fittings over wood in three pieces. 61 x 19 x 24 in. (154.9 x 48.2 x 60.9 cm.) overall. 2008- THIS PIECE WILL BE A UNIQUE COLOR VARIATION FROM THE EDITION OF 7 (STRIPE AND LETTER COLORS WILL VARY FROM THE ILLUSTRATED WORK). THE SCULPTURE WAS CONCEIVED IN 2008 AND WILL BE PRODUCED ON A COMMISSION BASIS WITH AN 8-WEEK LEAD TIME. The series Lutz refers to as "Luxury Sculptures" are based on the forms of Louis Vuitton trunks in combination with the box sculptures of Andy Warhol. Lutz began this series in 2008. The works aim to create a feedback loop. Where Warhol elevated consumer products like Brillo and Heinz Ketchup to Fine Art, Lutz now takes those artworks and debases them by making them "luxury objects" in his own art practice. The works are constructed in the same manner as a genuine Vuitton, though in this case, Lutz has removed all functionality the original trunks would have provided, these are now closed systems only showing a surface of pure luxury. Each of these works is unique, hand painted, silkscreened and then hand tacked with hundreds of brass nails with hand-printed leather trim. Although not functional as trunks or storage, these sculptures are elegant versatile objects in the home, aesthetically stunning from all sides, the artist has intended for these sculptures to be stacked if the owner wishes. The artist is in several major collections including as pictured in Architectural Digest John Demsey and Beth Rudin DeWoody and has shown work at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and The Andy Warhol Museum in addition to several other major institutions. The first of the edition was used for the Italian printing of Arthur Danto's Beyond the Brillo Box.

  • Concorde Cap, Electroplated Copper Contemporary Art Sculpture by Shelter Serra
    By Shelter Serra
    Located in Brooklyn, NY
Concorde Cap Shelter Serra 5.5”x7”x9” Electroplated Copper 2017 The Concorde Cap is one of an ongoing series of copper electroplated hats. Ranging from Superman to Nascar, the artist chooses hats from all walks of life before distilling through the electroplating process, transforming the once functional hat into an object of contemplation and beauty. Shelter Serra’s sculptures and drawings explore notions of mass consumption and cultural identity. He juxtaposes objects that are both mundane and immediately recognizable: a 40 ounce bottle of malt liquor cast in plaster, a Best Buy cap plated in copper, and a designer handbag cast in resin, to name a few. Casting and plating these objects in unlikely materials—resin, plaster, platinum silicone, and copper—Serra strips them of their intended functionality, thereby highlighting their underlying cultural symbolism and transforming branded products into objects of aesthetic contemplation. “Refining an aesthetic and making beautiful objects, whether that be a dress, bag, or sculpture," says Serra, "is a celebration of pure creativity and personal vision.” His Fake Gun...

This piece titled "Petroleum Bubble Sunsets (pair)" is an original artwork by PJ Linden and is made from dimensional paint on ALIFE Leather Suede Sneakers. This piece measures 6.5"h x 8.5'w 11"d each shoe. Linden uniquely refines the use of non-traditional mediums, such as the kitschy, dimensional fabric paint, oft-referred to as puff paint, seeking to transfigure the biological into the supernatural, as filtered through the prism of a consumerist culture predicated upon the synthetic and the mass-produced. Born 1985 Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. PJ Linden is a New York City and Pennsylvania-based fine artist known for her abstract, three-dimensional work. She paints with machine-like precision, creating microscopic patterns on found objects, fashion, and technology. Linden got her start working with Patricia Field, creating custom, one-of-a-kind art and fashion under the name Wonderpuss Octopus. At Field's iconic, namesake boutique, Linden's work caught the eye of celebrity clients including Beyonce, Willow Smith, Kelly Osborne, and Solange Knowles...
