About the Item
"Radiant" is an elegant, handwoven fiber sculpture of copper fabric with small reflective discs. Part of Vander Sluis' "Torso" series, this 18 x 17 x 7 piece is designed to be seen from both sides and hangs from two fabric-covered rings at the top by monofilament. Label on the inside has the artist's signature.
In her "Torso" series, Vander Sluis uses improvisational weaving and knitting to create fiber figures. The torso form symbolizes the artist's energetic center. With these sculptures, the artist talks about the nature of personal power and resilience.
