John Welsh is a Hampshire based artist specializing in Landscapes and cityscapes of London and the South Downs. He draws his inspiration from the extraordinary weather and light of the English landscape. Born in the West Midlands, Welsh has spent his whole life exploring the beauty of landscape painters work such as Turner, John Martin, David Inshaw and John Shelley. Welsh’s specialty is his Raindrop series, where ordinary urban landscapes are transformed into magical expressions of mood. Sexism, family obligations and societal pressures contributed to a long history of their being overlooked, but the female Abstract Expressionists experimented vigorously, developed their own style and produced significant bodies of work.
