American, 1892-1978
Boris Deutsch (1892-1978) was a 20th century modernist figurative painter and printmaker. He was born in Krasnagorka, Lithuania on June 4, 1892. Deutsch began drawing at age five and remained a self-taught artist, except for brief intervals at the Bloom Academy of Art in Riga, Latvia and the Kunstgewerbe Schule in Berlin. He moved to Seattle, WA in 1916 and then to Los Angeles in 2019. He began his career as a commercial art and set designer for movies. In the late 1930's he was recruited to paint murals for the New Deal, WPA, receiving numerous mural commissions to paint murals for the treasury department and several post office buildings. In 1941 he won the large competition to decorate the Terminal Annex Post Office in Los Angeles with eleven large murals. During the last decade of his life he experimented with monotypes and other printmaking techniques. Deutsch died in Los Angeles on Jan. 16, 1978.
Boris Deutsch's art has been the focus of many exhibitions, including: The University of California, Los Angeles in 1926, The Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco in 1930, Oakland Art Gallery in 1937, The University of Southern California (USC) in 1939, The Whitney Museum in New York in 1946 and a centennial exhibition by the Judah l. Magnes Museum in Berkeley California in 1992. In 1955, Marc Chagall called him the greatest Jewish artist of our time. Deutch's works are held by several institutions and museums, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Scribal Museum, the Judah L. Magnes Museum Berkeley, California, and the Pomona College Museum of Art.(Biography provided by Timeless Intaglio)

Beautiful mid-1980's hand colored Art Deco style lithograph by Southern California artist John Luke Eastman (American, b.1929). In this 1984 version of Eastman's "Three Ribbon Heads", a delicate flowing line drawing of three consecutive women's faces in profile are framed by ribbons in a circular composition. As in many of the artist's works, Eastman captions the piece with the following phrase: " In this life we have three lasting qualities...faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of them is love."

John Luke Eastman is a Southern California artist with a unique style.
A graduate of UCLA with a degree in graphic arts, he was successful fashion illustrator and art director for prestigious department store in L. A. before turning his full attention to fine art. Over the part decade he has created and mastered the unique style that is currently found in his limited edition silk-screen graphics. A versatile artist, who has illustrated many record and book covers he refers to his style as "the 5th dimension" or "beautiful distortion". The qualities he seeks to impart through his works are fluidity of movement, a feeling of spatiality, weightlessness and beautiful color.

In this highly detailed hand painted etching, artist Claus Sievert (American, 1949-2009) depicts a clown gazing into a handheld brass mirror holding a mask with matching face paint. Claus Sievert, (American, 1949–2009) nicknamed “The Tree Guy," was a German-born American printmaker and illustrator, who studied etching in an art college in Brunswick, Germany, in 1971. He began his career as an art teacher in Germany, teaching printmaking, art history, advertising design, and visual communication, and became a full-time artist in 1981.
Sievert created limited-edition etchings from copper plates and a hand-turned press which he then individually hand-colored.
Sievert’s work won awards, illustrated a children’s book by Leo Tolstoy, was commissioned by the Sierra Club and Golden Gate National Recreation Area to illustrate their publications, and he had his images published in several calendars.
