Somebody Happy

‘Somebody Happy’ is a medium size contemporary figurative oil on canvas painting created by Vietnamese artist Dang Xuan Hoa in 2009. Featuring a cold palette made of blue, black, pink, grey and brown colors, the painting touches our emotions with its depiction of four family members. Our eye is immediately drawn to the character in the front, presenting a pink face that contrasts strongly with the rest of the family. Their faces are by opposition, grey and brown, with two of them featuring a bar code looking motif. All of them however, share blue lips that lead our eye from one character to the other. This painting exemplifies Hoa’s deep intimate connections with his family.
