Italian
Italian furniture brand Driade offers modern designs that are joyful, whimsical and slightly mischievous — words that might be used to describe the tree nymph of Greek mythology for which the company is named. Faye Toogood’s chunky, stout Roly Poly armchair and Fabio Novembre’s enigmatic Nemo chair — in which a backrest assumes the form of a human face — are just two examples of Driade’s eclectic furnishings.
Driade was founded in 1968 by brother and sister Enrico and Antonia Astori, and Adelaide Acerbi Astori, Enrico’s wife. Described by the company as a “factory of art,” Driade was focused solely on bringing distinctive and creative seating, case pieces and decorative objects to market in its early years. The brand sought to mass-produce decor and furniture that could also be seen as provocative works of art.
Driade's initial collaborations included Italian designers such as Enzo Mari, Nanda Vigo, Giotto Stoppino and Rodolfo Bonetto, to name a few. In the 1980s, the brand worked with influential and renowned designers from around the globe. In 1984, Driade partnered with French designer Philippe Starck and debuted his iconic Costes armchair during the same year. Projects with architects and furniture designers such as Ron Arad, Toyo Ito, Borek Sipek, Patricia Urquiola and others followed into the 2000s.
Over more than five decades — the company celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2018 — Driade’s fruitful partnerships have culminated in a vast catalog of chairs, sofas, coffee tables and other furnishings for the home and garden that evoke a unique and diverse blend of cultures.
Driade has also garnered international acclaim, winning the Compasso d’Oro award in 1979 and 2001 for Enzo Mari’s Delfira chair and ebony-finished, chipboard-top table, and again in 2008 for Ron Arad’s MT3 rocking armchair.

Even a coffee table can become a piece of art if it can transcend typological limitations. Fredrikson Stallard deal with the issue by the strength of the material to be bent and shaped. The result is a completely new form, marked by an important and expressionistic depression in the centre of the top.
PATRIK FREDRIKSON and IAN STALLARD began their collaboration in 1995 and have since become internationally recognized as leading exponents of British avant-garde design. They are well known for their ability to translate their creativity into simple yet emotionally engaging fine artwork and furniture.
Their cutting edge, conceptually rigorous work has been regularly discussed and praised in the design press and is sought after by discerning collectors and furniture producers.
Their work has been acquired by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, twice by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the French National Art Collection, and shown at the Design Museum in London, MoMA and the Museum of Art and Design in New York. Their clients include some of the leading names in contemporary design including Swarovski, Chanel, Veuve Clicquot, Comme des Garcons, Dunhill, Remy Martin, The London Design Festival, Bernhardt Design, David Gill Galleries, Contrasts Gallery, Tools Gallery, Mitterand & Cramer, The Savoy Hotel, Soho & Tribeca Grand, Tarkett and Iittala.

The Meridiana table stems from the ultimate globetrotter chair, revised this year with solid wooden legs. An archetype of the coffee shop or domestic table, it displays a precious balance between the round, wood particleboard top and the solid wood frame and legs. A mass-colored clay mixture is smoothed over the top by hand with a scraper. The table’s aesthetic is distinguished by the shaded, handmade finish of its top. Born in 1959, he graduated from the Academy of Decorative Arts in Nice in 1985 and a year later took a post-graduate course at the Domus Academy in Milan. From 1986 to 1988 he worked with Martine Bedin in Milan, and from 1988 to 1993 with Philippe Starck in Paris. His first items of furniture, issued by XO, date from 1991. Since May 1993 he has been working as an independent designer. His work ranges from furniture to product design, from interior design to architecture and exhibit design. He works, among others, with Artelano, Cappellini, Ceccotti, JC Decaux, Driade, Mazzega, Moroso, Trussardi, Daum, Moët e Chandon, Ecart International, Lacoste Lancome, l’Oreal, Shiseido, Whirlpool.
