Ezelino Briante (Naples, 1901 - Rome, 1971) was an Italian painter.
He was born in Naples in 1901
Son of musical artists, after some irregular studies, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, but after a few exams, he abandoned it.
He traveled in Italy and abroad (France, Switzerland, Sweden, Brazil and the United States of America) to be in contact with nature, which he loved since his childhood.
He stayed in Capri for a long time.
He died in Rome in 1971.(Biography provided by Gijsel Gallery)

This painting stands out for its use of full-bodied brushstrokes and thick impasto application of paint. It depicts an Italian harbour in the 1940s, probably on one of the islands in the bay of Naples, such as Procida.
The Artist
Ezelino Briante was born and trained in Naples and he traveled around Italy and abroad (France, Switzerland, Sweden, Brazil, United States of America) looking for naturalistic subjects that he preferred. This celebrated painter studied at the Accademia di Bella Arti di Napoli and his scenes of Italy won him great support and fame in Italy and internationally.
His paintings of Italian piers, in particular those of Campania; well known are also his marine landscapes of Sorrento, Capri, Maiori, Amalfi Coast and Sorrento Coast...

In this precious oil painting Vincenzo Montella is inspired by the views of the Dutch neutralized Italian painter Gaspar Adriaensz van Wittel, known as Casper, and known in Italy as Gaspare Vanvitelli. In particular this is a reinterpretation of the painting "View of the Tiber with Castel Sant'Angelo and San Pietro in the background" by Vanvitelli.
Taken from the left bank of the river, the view has its focal point in the circular mass of Castel Sant’Angelo, the pontifical fortress built on the central core of Hadrian's mausoleum and enriched with ramparts and patrol paths overlooking the water. In the background of the view, the Vatican basilica with the papal palaces responds to the vestiges of imperial power, while in the center the Sant'Angelo bridge, adorned with statues painted between 1669 and 1671 by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and his pupils, connects the two banks replacing the ancient Aelius bridge built by Hadrian.
