Gabriel Portoles Ascaso Art

Spanish, b. 1930
Huesca Pyrenees has been giving shape to what he studied at the Llotja School in Barcelona, specifically drawing, and then the polychromy that he learned with Jordi Alumá. Over time it has been renewed, not only in the forms, which would be the most natural, but also in the materials, in the technical elements that it has used and that it uses, such as that specialty that it has made its own, tempering egg on board, an expressive mode that began in the 1960s and continues. He has exhibited frequently, both in our country and in France, Germany and the United States, where his technique is highly appreciated, with which he achieves clean, soft lighting surfaces, impeccably executed, with tones and transparencies that touch the genius, and, of course, very personal, although the drawing, perfect in the form of execution, is based on the classics of the great centuries of painting. Graceful, ethereal, almost spiritual female figures, with their slightly bluish flesh, powerful gazes, elegant nudes at times, ample clothing at others, and backgrounds with natural elements, flowers or oriental rhythms. His works have a peculiar baroque air, which is usually developed in successive superimpositions. He also stands out in some balanced still lifes, careful in their composition on different planes, which allows the color to be broken down in a very personal and almost unique way for this veteran artist. All this allows him to achieve a diction expressed with his own voice, sensitive lyricism and the good work of a master. His works are, without a doubt, instantly identifiable and unrepeatable, because there is only one Gabriel Portolés. Reaching environments of great sensitivity, as if the sun were penetrating through the walls of an old cathedral through the luminous and brightly colored glass. In these canvases, both the lyricism of a poet of brushes and the master technique of a master of the language of shapes and color stand out.

Await For Desire
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
At the center of "Await For Desire" stands a young woman, her expression laden with introspection. Her captivating gaze invites viewers to explore the depths of their own desires and longings. Mayowa's depiction of the woman symbolizes the human capacity for introspection and the journey of self-discovery. Her youth suggests a sense of innocence as if she is at the precipice of embarking on a profound exploration of her desires, dreams, and aspirations. The rose flower held gently in the young woman's hand adds a layer of intrigue to the artwork. Roses have long been associated with love, desire, and beauty. In this context, the rose becomes a metaphor for the desires that lie within each of us, waiting to be explored and embraced. The delicacy with which the young woman holds the rose signifies the fragility and vulnerability of these desires. The petals, beautifully rendered by Mayowa, exude a sense of purity and grace, mirroring the young woman's own essence. The title of the artwork, "Await For Desire," suggests a period of patient waiting and introspection. Mayowa invites viewers to contemplate the nature of desire and the role it plays in shaping our lives. The young woman's expression implies a moment of deep reflection as if she is on the cusp of a significant realization or decision. This evokes a sense of intrigue, urging viewers to reflect on their own desires, their significance, and the choices that emerge from such introspection. Akingbade Mayowa...

Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career that lasted 17-years. Beginning in 1992, she studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike...

"Artichoke Hold on Me" green & purple contemporary impasto oil still life
By Emily Persson
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
"Artichoke Hold on Me" is a green & purple contemporary impasto oil still life. Emily Persson is a Melbourne based artist who has been creating oil paintings with a palette knife for three years. Emily is a multi-generational artist with roots in Brisbane, Australia. Although an avid hobbyist painter her whole life, Emily found her style and her new career in 2016 when she began painting landscape, seascape and floral still-life paintings inspired by her surrounds in Queensland. Emily decided in late 2017 that she would give away a successful corporate office job and pursue her life long dream of becoming a full time artist. She relocated to South Yarra in Melbourne and immediately began exhibiting across Australia at galleries such as the Moree Gallery and Satch & Co. Emily participated in many group exhibitions and fundraisers in 2018 including multiple shows in Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland. Emily has gained most of her notoriety from her popularity on Instagram where she has close to twelve thousand followers. Emily’s art has trended worldwide on social media and she has become a pioneer and mentor for other artists trying to find their online groove. Emily has drawn the eye of some of Australia’s most sought after interior designers including Thomas Hamel...
