Richly-colored and vibrant Edwardian Beach Scene, British oil painting on canvas in impressionist style, presented in contemporary gold frame. The oil paint is raised and textured, lifting the beach sands, sea, sky and dresses from the canvas. Gathering in Edwardian period costuming looks out over the sands to the sea and clouds, with distant sailboats and children playing in the waves. This is a delightful contemporary painting, unsigned, but original oil dating to the 20th century. Framers tags verso from Oxford and Glasgow. C.W. Mundy's "Shoshone Canyon, West of Cody" is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts the rocky terrain and foliage in an impressionistic landscape. About the Artist: C.W. Mundy, an American impressionist, was born in 1945 and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated with a B.F.A. from Ball State University, in Indiana, in 1969 and then shortly thereafter traveled to California, where he painted, played music, and worked on his M.F.A. at Long Beach State. In 1978, he returned home to Indiana, worked as a sports illustrator for a decade, then in the early 1990s took on the challenge of painting in a more impressionistic style, going out of doors and painting en plein air, from life. This painting style led Mundy to a series of European plein air painting trips, beginning with a trip to France in 1995 and continuing through the present. In 2007, Mundy achieved master status in The American Impressionist Society and in 2003 he was invited to master signature membership in the Oil Painters of America. He is also a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists. Ulrich Gleiter's (EUR based) "Dalmatian Coast (Near Dubrovnik)" is an oil painting that depicts a blue coast lined with green textural beaches. Bio/Artist Statement: German-born artist Ulrich Gleiter (b. 1977) is noted for his landscapes. His style is sometimes reminiscent of German expressionism and the Russian impressionists. He first studied at the Dresden Academy of Arts and later at the Repin Academy in Saint Petersburg, Russia. His work has been recognized with awards in the USA and in Russia and been featured in books and magazines. "Ulrich Gleiter is a citizen of the world. Born in Saarbrücken, Germany, he pursued his undergraduate studies at Dresden’s Academy of Fine Arts, where he learned to paint with the bold, colorful strokes handed down from the early 20th-century German expressionists. Students there prioritized their individuality — no one but you could have made this picture, they were told. Gleiter then absorbed a different view of artistry during his exchange year at Moscow’s Surikov Institute, followed by six more years at the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg. Today Gleiter divides time between Germany, Russia, and the United States, where he has become much admired among plein-airists in such scenic places as Colorado, California, and Wyoming. In our era of diplomatic tensions, when Crimea and Russia appear regularly in the headlines, Gleiter feels a renewed appreciation for nature’s timelessness — for its inspiring capacity to rise above the ins-and-outs of man-made problems.
