Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, Original Painting
By Judy Mudd
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Part of artist Judy Mudd's marine collection, her inspiration comes from numerous trips to the coast. Judy captures the brilliant sunset as it colors the sky above a lighthouse. "I was intrigued by the sweeping clouds and the backlighting from the sun that reflected on the water," says Judy. As such, she felt it would create a visually striking painting.

Judy develops her paintings with thorough reconnaissance work. She goes out on photo shoots in a variety of atmospheric conditions, sketches outdoors, takes notes, and completes color and value studies. Moonglow Black Beauty, Original Painting
By Judy Mudd
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
A full moon illuminates fishing boats moored in still evening waters. "I was captivated by the sleek, beautiful boat at the forefront of this piece," says artist Judy Mudd. "It complemented the soft, quiet mood created by the glow of the moon in the sky above. The combination of these elements provides a gentle flow for the viewer's eye to follow." This watercolor is part of Judy's Moonglow Series.

Old Master Drawing, Westerkerk Keizersgracht in Amsterdam, 17th century, Dutch
Located in Greven, DE
Jan van der Heyden (1637 Gorinchem - 1712 Amsterdam), attributed. Old Master Drawing, Westerkerk Keizersgracht in Amsterdam, 17th century, Dutch Westerkerk and Keizersgracht in Amsterdam Backside: later drawn backside with village church of the 18th century Chalk and pen on paper 23,5 x 18,5 cm Preliminary drawing for a painting from the creative period c. 1667 - 1670. This painting has been published a few years ago by Peter C. Sutton in the catalogue raisonné of the artist. Van der Heyden was initially a pupil of a glass painter, but later turned exclusively to architectural painting and went to Amsterdam, where he painted views of churches, castles, palaces, public squares, streets, canals, etc., most of which are richly decorated with staffage. In addition, van der Heyden was also active as an inventor, for example, he developed a street lighting system for Amsterdam by means of oil street lamps, which was in operation from 1669 to 1840. After a stay in London, he painted the London fire of 1666, which he either witnessed himself or had seen the consequences of. Certainly influenced by this, he did much to further the technical and organisational development of the fire brigade from 1669 onwards. His greatest invention was probably the fire hose, which enabled significant improvements in fire-fighting technology and tactics. He also improved the hand-operated fire engines of the time by making them smaller, more mobile and more powerful, and he developed the series connection of several pumps to increase the pressure in order to achieve a greater range for the water jet. In 1690, together with his son, he was the author and illustrator of the Brandspuiten-boek, the first manual for fire fighting. Johann Lingelbach, Adriaen van de Velde and Eglon van der Neer...

Canyon Country

Canyon Country by Lu Haskew Pastel 16x20" image size Landscape view of the Grand Canyon ABOUT THE ARTIST: Lu Haskew 1921-2009 "Life is good to me. Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career. Since 1992, she has studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike, and others at the Scottsdale Art...
