Julio Prieto Nespereira Furniture
Julio Prieto Nespereira was born in Ourense in 1896, where, in 1912, he had his first oil painting exhibition. By this time, he was already providing drawings for various newspapers in Galicia. Impressed by the work of Isidre Nonell and Joaquím Mir, he arrived in Madrid in 1917, where he was taught by Álvarez de Sotomayor. He began to win awards as early as the 1920s and was invited to the Venice Biennale in 1926. He began a period in which he organized shows in Spain, won awards and traveled throughout the world showing his work. In 1966, he first presented his famous series at an anthological exhibition in the Madrid Modern Art Museum. Until 1955, his style was figurative, after which it evolved towards abstraction. He alternated between engraving and painting and less frequently, sculpture. He died in Madrid in 1991.
