Artist: Kristy Gordon
Strangled Planet
By Kristy Gordon
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
A contemporary oil painting that resembles an early renaissance mural. Old masters throughout Art History come to mind, like Hieronymus Bosch, Jan Van Eyck, or Pieter Bruegel. Gordon depicts the "Strangled Planet" we live in: war, protests, and unrest abounds. At the same time, exploration, cooperation, and humanity persists. She uses European Medieval, Renaissance, and Neoclassical references around the main contemporary action. This is perhaps a reference to the uncertainty that is inherent in life—hardships as well as victories have always been depicted in grand compositions. The skeletons that climb, cling, and swing on either side of the painting are the reminders of this finite life. Artist Bio Kristy Gordon’s work is a frank and intimate reflection of her curiosity about other people, transformations and self-discovery. Her paintings hang in over 500 public and private collections worldwide including the Government of Ontario Art Collection. She has been a full-time, professional painter since 2004, exhibiting her work internationally and earning numerous awards including the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant (2010, 2013), an Exceptional Merit Award from the Portrait Society of America (2014), and was a finalist for the 2013 Kingston Prize for Canadian portraiture. She has been widely featured in numerous magazines, art publications, radio and television shows, including International Artist, Fine Art Connoisseur, The Artist’s Magazine, Southwest Art and Bravo!’s Star Portraits. Gordon has seven years of experience teaching and conducting painting workshops throughout North America. She has taught at numerous academies and schools including The Academy of Realist Art Ottawa, The Lake Country Art House, and The Okanagan School of Arts in Penticton and has also substitute taught at the New York Academy of Art. She has lectured at China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, New Century Artists in New York City and the Art of the Portrait in Washington, DC. She received her MFA degree in Painting from the New York Academy of Art and holds a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design. Additionally, she has studied classical drawing and painting at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto and Andreeva Portrait Academy in Santa Fe. She has also studied privately with artists including Yuqi Wang, Odd Nerdrum, Juan Martinez, Jeremy Lipking. Gordon is represented by Dacia Gallery in New York, Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor and Cube Gallery...

Large Surrealist Oil on Canvas. 'She brought Colour into his Life'.
By Frank Docherty
Located in Cotignac, FR
Large surrealist contemporary oil on canvas by Scottish artist Frank McLean Docherty R.S.W, signed and dated bottom left and signed and titled 'She brought Colour into his Life' to the reverse. This piece whilst wonderfully colourful, playful and erotic is typical of the witty sense of humour this artist displays in all his work. Docherty likes to tease us visually and asks questions and presents conundrums to the viewer. Frank McLean Docherty was born in Glasgow , Scotland in 1942. He became a student at Glasgow School of Art in 1960 and graduated from the Department of Printed Textiles in 1964. He taught in a secondary school in the East End of Glasgow for two years, thereafter departing to work in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland as a textile designer (Marks & Spencer, Heals and Liberty of London). He was also an illustrator for a range of newspapers and an Art Director of magazines. In 1973, he was appointed Principal Teacher of Art in a Scottish High School and in 1978 was honoured by the Queen when he was appointed Member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours (R.S.W.) He left education in 1994. Since that time he has developed a vision which is quite unique in Scottish Art. Bank Managers, toucans, lighthouses, penguins, bowler hats, Frank Docherty...

Microcosm
By Kristy Gordon
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
A medieval festival blends with contemporary clothes and surrealistic elements. People wear gold except for a select few. Hieronymus Bosch is cited in multitudes: the oversized flower that one of the girls in gold holds above her head, the canvas crowded with people engaged in different activities, the blue mountains in the distance, the surrealistic birds, the golden people emerging from the ambiguous dark space inside the tent. One of the many mysteries Gordon paints into the composition is the dark earth in the foreground—is it a pond, or is something more foreboding emerging? Artist Bio Kristy Gordon’s work is a frank and intimate reflection of her curiosity about other people, transformations and self-discovery. Her paintings hang in over 500 public and private collections worldwide including the Government of Ontario Art Collection. Brand New Colony
By Kristy Gordon
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
A fantasy world, perhaps atop clouds. The gold background and cherry blossoms reminds one of the Japanese "Floating World" compositions. However, the creatures and carved out hole in the center are references to Hieronymus Bosch. Gordon uses these references to her advantage to create an entirely new narrative. A "colony" is being formed, or perhaps just discovered by the spaceship that has landed. What will this entail? Artist Bio Kristy Gordon’s work is a frank and intimate reflection of her curiosity about other people, transformations and self-discovery. Her paintings hang in over 500 public and private collections worldwide including the Government of Ontario Art Collection. A constellation of The Pleiades painted on aluminum. An industrious artistic interpretation. The nine brightest stars of The Pleiades are known as the Seven Sisters of Greek Mythology, Strope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygeta, Celaeno, and Alcyone.
