Manuel Garza

Growing up in Central Texas, Manuel Garza is well acquainted with the Texas hill country scenery. His goal is to recreate this scenery to perfection, capturing in oil the thick heat, bold sunlight and cool shade of the state. His use of lighting and vivid colors and his realistic style reflects his passion for beauty. Garza's work often features not only wildflowers but quail, pheasant, turkeys, deer and a host of domestic birds. "I am a landscape artist," he says, "but wildlife is part of that landscape. It adds life." His paintings have an instant rapport with those who know and love the Texas landscape. Garza is largely self-taught, encouraged by his mother, although he did attend the Texas School of Fine Arts and studied under Charles Normann as well as Porfirio Salinas and Robert Wood, and cites them as major influences on his style. He feels that it is equally important to remain constantly in contact with his favorite subject, the land itself, and takes long hikes, photographing and sketching the landscape. These feelings are shared with others through his perception of Texas and it's a natural beauty. Manuel Garza is exhibited in galleries throughout Texas and New Mexico, and the geographical area of interested collectors is constantly expanding. His paintings are included in the collection of Lyndon B. Johnson, John Connelly, Ben Barnes, and many others throughout the United States.

Lowell Nesbitt Oil Painting, Iris on Dark Grey, 1968
By Lowell Nesbitt
Located in Phoenix, AZ
A beautiful example by well-known artist Lowell Nesbitt featuring dramatic pale Irises on a dark grey ground. Image size: 22" H x 34" W. Simply framed. In mint condition. Signed, titled and dated on the Verso. Lowell Nesbitt (1933-1993), was a graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and also attended the Royal College of Art in London. In 1964, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington gave him one of his first museum exhibitions. Mr. Nesbitt was frequently grouped with the Photo Realists. Mr. He was best known for gargantuan images or irises, roses, lilies and other flowers, which he often depicted in close up so that their petals seemed to fill the canvas. Dramatic, implicitly sexual and a little ominous, they earned the artist a popularity with the general public that tended to overshadow his reputation within the art world. In 1980, the United States Postal Service issued four stamps based on Mr. Nesbitt's floral paintings. He also served as the official artist for the space flights of Apollo 9 and Apollo 13...

Friedrich Ortlieb Oil on Canvas Children Celebrate Christmas
By Friedrich Ortlieb
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Friedrich Ortlieb (German, 1839-1909) a fine and large oil on canvas titled "New Year's Day at The grandfather's". The joyful indoor family scene depicting a Christmas and new year's celebration with an elder seated couple, the grandparents, the grandmother holding a toddler on her arms, the grandfather with his smoking pipe by his side, both enjoying a young boy's (grandson) poem recital, while other children await their turn with gifts as the mesmerized young parents Stand and watch in awe. A Christmas tree by the window, a cat sneaking by and a basket with wine and bread awaits being delivered as a gift to the elders. A young boy sits patiently on a chair, an apple and an umbrella by his side. Signed: Fried Ortlieb, München 1873 - (lower right). An engraved brass plaque reads "New Year's at the grandfathers - Friederich Ortlieb 1839-1909) Munich, circa 1873. Friedrich Ortlieb was an accomplished artist, born in Stuttgart in 1839 and died in Munich on the 4th October 1909. He received his formal art training at the L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Stuttgart and also at Steffeck, Berlin. He exhibited widely, though most notably in Dresden and Vienna from 1871. He is best remembered for his genre scenes with children as shown in this finely detailed example of his work. Epitomizing the very best in this genre, Ortlieb depicts the character and personality of the children in joyful situations with accuracy and great sensitivity to the subject matter, a frozen moment in time with so much detail and emotion expressed in the children’s and elder's faces.
