Nikolai Timkov (1912-1993) Russian artist. Oil on board dated 1968 in a gold-leaf frame. Titled and signed twice on the verso. Titled: The Kremlin. Measures: 13 ½ x 20. Frame size: 20 1/4 x 26 3/8. This painting is a great example of Timkov's ability. Note the beautiful mauve shadings in the snow. Born in 1912, Nikolai Timkov began his studies at Rostov-on-Don Art Tekhnekum between 1927-1931. He continued his studies at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, Moscow from 1933-1939. The artist was active in Moscow from 1930-1933, thereafter, he relocated to Leningrad where he spent the majority of his career. Timkov has had an extensive history of exhibitions throughout the Soviet Union including the prestigious All-Union Art exhibition, Moscow 1955 and Soviet Russia exhibition, Moscow, 1960. Beautiful oil on canvas by Arizona/Utah/California artist John Burton (b. 1966). The painting is in excellent condition and bears a lovely gold frame. The work measures 36 x 24 inches. The frame is 42 x 30 inches. The painting is signed lower right and also signed and dated on the verso, 2006. The title is seen on the verso on the label: "Escape" Artist John Burton (b. 1966) is a graduate of Arizona State University and the Academy of Art in San Francisco. The artist won the top award at the 2003 Oil Painters of America show and competition in Taos, New Mexico and an award of excellence at the 2004 show. Burton was born in Salt Lake City, Utah but moved to Los Altos, California at the age of two. Burton always wanted to be an artist and when he was in fifth grade he broke his back and spent his recovery drawing and sketching. Stunning Signed, Lowell Nesbitt Paper Collage and Hand Painting, 1981 Lowell Blair Nesbitt (October 4, 1933 - July 8, 1993) was an American painter, draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor. He served as the official artist for the NASA Apollo 9, and Apollo 13 space missions; in 1976 the United States Navy commissioned him to paint a mural in the administration building on Treasure Island spanning 26 feet x 251 feet, then the largest mural in the United States; and in 1980 the United States Postal Service honored Lowell Nesbitt by issuing four postage stamps depicting his paintings. In 1958 the Baltimore Museum of Art hosted the first solo museum exhibit that Nesbitt was to have in his lengthy career, but it was in 1964 with his debut at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Museum) in Washington, D.C. that Nesbitt received greater recognition. The array of botanical works most likely would not have been created had it had not been for the beckoning of fellow artist Robert Indiana, who, in 1962, after viewing some of Lowell Nesbitt's abstract paintings drawings and prints, suggested that he attempt to make a conversion from the abstraction which Nesbitt’s career had been focused on pre-1962, to the style of realism.
