About the Item
Original watercolor, circa late 1940's by Lowell D. Houser (1902-1971).
Subject: Cuba. Framed and in excellent condition.
Measures 10 x 17 inches. Frame measures 22 1/4 x 29 1//4 inches.
Born in Chicago, IL in 1902, Lowell Houser moved to Iowa in 1909. Upon graduation from Ames High School in 1921, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago.
In 1923 he made a trip to Mexico with artist Everett Gee Jackson to study with Jean Charlot. Houser was a member of the faculty at Iowa State College until 1938 when he moved to San Diego, CA to teach at the State College.
Ill health forced his retirement in 1957; he then moved to the family plantation at Fredericksburg, VA where he remained until his demise on Jan. 3, 1971.

Lowell Houser
Lowell Houser was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1902 and moved to Iowa in 1909. Upon graduation from the Ames High School in 1921, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1923, he made a trip to Mexico with artist Everett Gee Jackson to study with Jean Charlot. Houser was a member of the faculty at Iowa State College until 1938 when he moved to San Diego, California, to teach at the State College. Ill health forced his retirement in 1957; he then moved to the family plantation at Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he remained until his death in 1971.

Lowell Nesbitt (1933-1993), was a graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and also attended the Royal College of Art in London.
