A French printed cotton hooded Long Cloak - Provence Early 19th Century

About the Item

First third of the 19th century Provence Beautiful Polonaise Cape or hooded cloak in Puce printed cotton imitating chinés à la branche. It is lined with an astonishing reused 18th century Indigo cambric. Printed on cotton using a roller or copper plate with a Puce background filled with zebra twigs and small dots. Lining in grey fluffy cotton and Cambrasine Indigo brocaded with floral motifs in polychrome wool. Beautiful Polonaise pleating around the cape and small hood. Note the twisted iron hook fastening, also probably from the 18th century. No flaws except for a period patch on the bottom of the cape at the back, which is really hard to notice. Otherwise very good colour and condition. Perfect for mass or simply for the pleasure of a Provençal Christmas. A collector's item, wearable today. Dimensions: Equivalent size 38-40 France. Cloak height 120 cm, cloak circumference 263 cm, hood height 40 cm.
