Ivan Grundahl Black Avant Garde Wrapping Draped Trench Coat – Eu 40 (Med), 1990s

About the Item

A wearable work of art, this sculptural hobble coat resembles some of the great deconstructionist garments of Rei Kawakubo, but was created by the Danish modernist Ivan Grundahl. Featuring a lean silhouette with a gentle princess hemline, the coat’s piece-de-resistance is its wrapping apron, which may be buttoned at the center back or right hip for a “yawn pocket” effect. In seasonless lightweight spun microfiber, it can be worn almost year-round as a dramatic wardrobe staple. Point lapel hobble coat with plunging V neckline and surplice front; 7 full-length princess seams and gentle princess hemline. Wrap-around apron at left front panel may be attached at rear center back or left waist button for two completely different silhouettes. Double breasted two-button front closure with hidden interior waist button; flap pocket at right hip. Fully lined in black and crimson stripe acetate. fabric: Super 100s microfiber, acetate noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: none condition: excellent measurements: collar: 4 ½” at widest neckline opening: 6 ½” across, 9” drop shoulders: 17” sleeve: 24” from shoulder; 19” from underarm sleeve circumference: 15” at upper arm, 11” at wrist bust: 42” waist: 34” hips: 44” apron: 35” wide x 29” tall length: 50” from shoulder, 51” from rear center neck, 41 ½” from underarm sweep: 49” label: Ivan Grundahl (Copenhagen) size: Eu. 40; comparable to modern size medium

Considered a "neutral" since the mid-century, a leopard fur coat is the stylish gal's vintage Holy Grail, though this on is not made of the controversial genuine leopard skin Jackie's was. This one just happens to have belonged to a Las Vegas madame on top of it. A-line stenciled mink stroller coat...
