Stephen Burrows Bright Cerulean Blue Jersey, Taffeta and Chiffon Tassel Dress

About the Item

Stephen Burrows is an American fashion designer based in New York City, known for being one of the first African-American fashion designers to sell internationally and develop a mainstream, high-fashion clientele. His garments, known for their bright colors and "lettuce hem" curly-edges, became an integral part of the disco-dancing scene of the 1970s. Burrows was one of the five American designers to show at the iconic Versailles battle in 1973 when the Americans went up against the French couturiers. Throughout his career has been awarded 3 Cody awards. This show-stopping sleeveless bright blue silk chiffon and taffeta tassel dress by Stephen Burrows is truly a work of art! The bodice and skirt are made from form-fitting stretchy cerulean jersey with darker blue taffeta trimming on the inverted trapezoid neckline. Falling below the waistline is a curtain of azure fringe made from strands of rolled silk chiffon which are individually beaded and frayed at the end in two tones of blue to create tassels. The dress has incredible movement, and is a perfect ensemble to show off on the dance floor! This is an authentic Sample piece from the late 90’s - 2000’s collection. Labeled a “Size 6” and with white sample tag coded in black marker. Invisible zipper and hook/eye clasp on the left side. Materials: Jersey, taffeta, silk chiffon, plastic beads.
