About the Item
Stephen Burrows is an American fashion designer based in New York City, known for being one of the first African-American fashion designers to sell internationally and develop a mainstream, high-fashion clientele. His garments, known for their bright colors and "lettuce hem" curly-edges, became an integral part of the disco-dancing scene of the 1970s. Burrows was one of the five American designers to show at the iconic Versailles battle in 1973 when the Americans went up against the French couturiers. Throughout his career has been awarded 3 Cody awards.
This gorgeous cream matte jersey gown is a classic example of Stephen Burrows’ signature lettuce edge. The full-length, three-quarter sleeve Sample dress features a boat-neck with asymmetrical peek-a-boo shoulder on the left side. Asymmetry is another trademark of Burrows design. This form fitting dress is adorned with tiny silver beads and sequins enclosed in a circle and playful ruffles running along the front and back bodice. A sequined semi-circle appears on the back as well. The skirt reaches the floor for extra glamor, hemmed of course in the same wavy lettuce edge. Invisible side zipper. Cream white jersey lining. Stephen Burrows World label with Size “S” + additional white sample label.
