Ming Square Table, circa 1890

About the Item

An extraordinary 19th century oversize Ming square table. The table top is constructed of four frame members and rests on the waist and apron that connect to four rounded legs. Such a framework is called "floating panel", an ingenious design to ensure structural integrity if solid wood reacts to change of humidity. Below the apron are rounded humpback stretchers with higher central sections abutting the apron. A set of four straight stretchers adds additional support. A carved cloud pattern on the spandrels is all the decorations this Ming table employs. Oversize at 39" wide, made of solid wood, in tenons and mortise construction. With all original patinas and in remarkable condition, this beautiful, rare table is perfect for your sophisticated home. 22.5" from ground to straight stretchers.
