Rare 19th Century Chinese Folding Low Table 'Kang Table'
About the Item
The unusual 19th century Kang Table (low table) is designed for the legs to fold into the table for storage when it’s not in use. It’s carved from Northern Elmwood (Yumu) and lacquered in a dark brown color and crafted with traditional Chinese mortise and tenon joinery. The apron is adorned with beautifully carved floral motifs. It has a great patina.
Kang Tables are used on a heated living and sleeping platform which is called a Kang in northern China. This table is from the Shanxi province of Northern China.
