Fine Antique Bamboo Root Carvings of Robed Gentlemen, a Pair
About the Item
A very fine pair of large Asian bamboo root carvings of two gentleman regarding the sky dating to the first quarter of the 20th century. Two robed gentlemen stand serenely with upturned faces regarding the sky and holding traditional pipes. Powerfully carved with great detail and utilizing the ribbed surface of the Bamboo Root in the composition of the robes.
The carvings are fine examples of the Ancient Art of bamboo root carving practiced and perfected in both China and Japan and the Pair are particularly large, impressive and very decorative. The Pair feature an excellent age patina and deep natural Amber tone.
One Gentleman is slightly larger than his companion and they each measure respectfully 7.75” high by 4” deep by 4.5” wide and 7” high by 3.85” deep by 4.5” wide.
Condition: Very good overall condition with expected and enhancing slight age splits as well as natural pitting to the Bamboo (Please see detail photos.).
