Small Thai Chiang Saen Bronze Head of the Buddha, 16th Century
About the Item
A small and charming fragmentary cast bronze Buddha head with traces of gilding and lacquer, Lan Na Kingdom, Chiang Saen style, 16th century, Thailand.
The small head of the Buddha from the ancient kingdom of Lan Na, with typical Chiang Saen features, including the round, plump face and defined chin. The head with a lovely deep chocolate brown patina, with remnants of lacquer to the edges of the face and mouth, and traces of gilding around the eyes, ears, nose and hairline.
Custom mounted on a black wooden stand.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor structural damages. Minor fading. Originally part of a larger sculpture, broken off at the neck. Some loss to the hair at the side back of the head. MIssing the lotus bud finial. The head filled with epoxy for mounting.
