Set of Three Italian Giltwood Overdoors or Supra Porta Architectural Fragments

About the Item

Well carved architectural water gilt fragments , Italian , probably overdoor fragments . Pretty bleeding of red base coat thru the lemon toned gilding . An "overdoor" (or "Supraporte" as in German, or "sopraporte" as in Italian) is a painting, bas-relief or decorative panel, generally in a horizontal format, that is set, typically within or attached to ornamental mouldings, over a door, or was originally intended for this purpose. Usually decorative and often carved , painted , gilded or inset with a painting. Sometimes found with a shelf for supporting a bust or porcelain vase. Gilt and water gilt , carved in relief . Red bole bleeding as shown in photos . Minor losses to gilding , very minor nicks , dings and losses to general carving. One panel painted with Roman numerals for two . Some white paint drips ( back side ) .
