Italian Neoclassical Giltwood Decorated Boiserie Overdoor Panel
About the Item
With a faux ( not real ) marble central inset .The crème ground with raised gilded carvings of stylized winged sphinx , Nike , ribbons , Ram’s heads , rosettes and garlands or festoons .
Highly Decorative and probably cut from a room boiserie, probably a room Overdoor ( or over window ).
Presents well and in sturdy stable condition. With rubbing to the gilding ( see photos) and overall dirt and grime from the years . Small very minute losses or wear Very fine craquelure to the painted ground throughout. Some dry age-cracks to base panel . Probable touchups throughout .Some gilt decorations refreshed over time . The centered faux marble possibly a later replacement or possibly not . The outside bottom and side edges have been blended in to match the front panel gilding .Typical dirt and grime.
