Large Italian Neoclassical Giltwood Récamier Settee in Scalamandré Tiger Velvet

And of unusual ( rare ) large dimensions. Matching bolsters for each end. Well worn gilt and paint finish and
losses to frame. Well worn paint and gilded finish. Oxidation to the gilt. Chipping, age dings . Slight warpage to back crest rail see photo 17 . sturdy .
Provenance by repute: Elise de Wolfe (Lady Mendl). Irwin J. Smith of Rockwood, TN attended New York School of Art (now Parsons) in 1920s, falling into the social circle of Elsie de Wolfe and Elisabeth Marbury. Some years and success later Mr. Smith touring Europe dropped in on an old acquatience Lady Mendel (de Wolfe) at her home Villa Trianon outside of Paris, thus the sale of items and shipping to Pittsburgh. Now by inheritance and descent.

Frame finish shows centuries of wear and charming distress .
