Mid-18th Century English Mantelpiece in the Style of Sir Henry Cheere
About the Item
An important mid-18th century English mantelpiece of strong architectural form, with many hallmarks of the work of Sir Henry Cheere. In Statuary, Convent Siena and Sicilian Jasper marbles, with side facing consoles to the jambs, abutting inground moldings carved with bead and reel, richly figured Siena frieze panels overlaid with Vitruvian scroll, flanking a projecting center tablet of bookmatched Sicilian Jasper beneath a corniced mantel shelf featuring a tier of crisply carved egg and dart molding.
