Mid-18th Century English Chimneypiece

About the Item

An important mid-18th century English chimneypiece of strong architectural form, with many hallmarks of the work of Sir Henry Cheere. In Statuary, Convent Siena and Sicilian Jasper marbles, with side facing consoles to the jambs, abutting inground moldings, Siena frieze panels overlaid with Vitruvian scroll, flanking a projecting center tablet of book matched Sicilian Jasper beneath a corniced mantel shelf featuring egg and dart molding.
