Magnificent Antique Carved Fireplace Mantel

About the Item

A large and impressive mahogany fireplace mantel with carvings. The piece is of American origin, circa late 19th century to early 20th century. Carved out of solid grained mahogany, this massive fireplace features a pair of stylized lion head gargoyles above the two lateral ogee columns ended with paws on the bottoms. Relief carvings of scrolled vines and a central mandala with flames showcased the highest craftsmanship from a bygone era. The piece is 60" wide x 80" high, with the fireplace opening at 41 1/2" wide by 45" high.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Fine antique condition with expected age appropriate wear, some minor surface crackles on the wood, minute lost to the edges and extremities such as one of the teeth (as shown). Impressive piece with beautiful mellow patina.
