About the Item
Neoclassical style blue Majolica planter by Minton
English, c. 1852
Measures: height 37.5cm, width 49cm, depth 42cm
This superb planter is crafted in the Victorian manner from brightly coloured majolica. The planter features a spirally fluted blue body, which broadens from a narrow bottom to a flared top. The top edge of the planter is finished with a green egg-and-dark border, while the green foot is modelled as a foliate wreath. The body is adorned with two golden ram head handles, between of which is draped a white floral garland on either side. The underside is variously marked for Minton.
