Two Companion Glazed Terra Cotta Monkeys

These two different monkeys from the estate of Clare Kellner. One is an umbrella stand the other just a decorative companion are circa 1950. The figures are lively and realistic in form with detailed facial expressions and poses. The glazed green color adds dimension and drama.The Kellner's are shining examples of what America has to offer thru hard work and determination. European transplants after the war, industrious and smart . They thru a gift started a company that later set them at the pinnacle of New Your social life and lived on Fifth Avenue and keep a country house in up state New York.
