Antonio Prieto (1912-1967) wonderful studio bowl. Signed on the bottom: Prieto.
In excellent condition. Measures: 4" H x 12 3/4" D.
Antonio "Tony" Prieto (1912-1967) was a ceramic artist and art professor at Mills College (1950-1967), Oakland, California. He was born in Yaldepenas, Spain on August 23, 1912 and immigrated to the United States as a child in 1916. After studying at Alfred University he began to teach ceramics at California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland (now California College of the Arts) in 1946. At the time, F. Carlton Ball was teaching ceramics at Mills College. When he left Mills, Prieto succeeded him. Prieto passed away prematurely in 1967 while still working at Mills College in Oakland.
